I design, make and teach from my studio, my "happy place". My specialist area is fine jewellery enamelling, which is using a specialised type of glass and fusing it to metal by firing in a kiln in layers to achieve the look. I also have jewellery made of silver and other materials, all individually designed and made. I trained in jewellery, silversmithing and blacksmithing in UK and Germany before emigrating to NZ in 1991. I have had my studio in Oakura for nearly twenty years. I have over 30 years experience as a maker and tutor and have been part of The Oakura Arts trail since it's inception in 2003. There's always work in progress to be seen, as well as finished pieces to buy, or take as inspiration to commission a personalised bespoke piece. People love to see the jewellery and design processes evident in the studio! My workshops can be booked directly on line through my website (www.sallylaing.co.nz) or you can organise a personalised schedule by contacting me directly.
