This mural was a collaborative effort and was finished by local artist Heneriata Te Whata during the Street Prints Papaioea Festival in 2020.
The woman represented on the wall is Ariana Te Awe Awe who was chosen for her meaningful ties to the local community. The symbolism of the mural represents her journey to discover her whakapapa and her role in the community.
The mural was created, in part, by youth of the city who were taught the process, meanings and its relationship to site as it lies on a wall that houses the regions taonga and sits at right angles to a window design depicting the heritage and symbolism of the Manawatu region.
