Trees Give Peace to Ones Soul by Pauline Allomes, 2026

Shopfront Canvas was a public art initiative delivered by Whanganui District Council to transform vacant shopfronts in the town centre into vibrant artworks by local creatives.

Pauline Allome is an environmental artist who works with paint, ink and pencil to create pieces inspired by Whanganui’s natural environment.

“The realization that through my art I can portray how beautiful I find the world we live in, and my sorrow at the destruction we are causing was a turning point for my art,” says the artist.

Through this artwork, Allome conjures up the lush canopy of Tarapuruhi Bushy Park in the town centre for passers-by to enjoy.
