'This Is My Medicine' - Solo Exhibition by Heidi Monks - Dye Mistress and Stitcher.
Coming to us from Thames, Heidi takes a philosophical approach to her fibre art practice. She feels the circular nature and existence of Past, Present and Becoming simultaneously as she works with her carefully selected materials, mordants and dyes. Heidi focuses on digging down into what is revealed and what remains hidden, what new forms may emerge, when layering her fabric pieces. Honouring the mystery, the dance, the new dreams being generated, asking where did we come from? Where are we going? What is carried in our DNA? What past lives have we lived?
Learn how Heidi transforms preloved linen, hemp placemats, silk organza, gauze layers, rusted upholstery fabric, wool, merino felt, rusted cotton backing, silk and cotton stitching, many plant dyes, including indigo, weld, madder root, eucalyptus leaf, onion skin, and mordant drawings of tannin, iron. A highly refined and controlled alchemy happens as Heidi works with her pieces.
Heidi is our Artist in Residence for the duration of her Solo exhibition - 'This Is My Medicine'. It is in the gallery from the 13th August to 22nd September
Open Thursdays to Mondays 1-5pm
