As an artist my journey is always to transcend that which indisputably exists, to tug gently at consciousness and offer a glimpse of something more, to usher ever-forward the limits of imagination.
I am forever and always dwelling in the ‘spaces between’ not quite in this space or that – something more intangible.
My creative life has been filled with many wonderful spaces. After more than a decade teaching and creating in the NZ landscape, I spent significant time in one of the largest spaces imaginable – the vast Australian desert.
Space in the desert has been rightfully described by many creative minds as both physical and metaphysical, and this notion of ‘space between’ is at the centre of all that I create.
Between one social construct and another, between the physical and the spiritual, between the conscious and the subconscious. Between this country, culture, philosophy and another. I find myself forever perched precariously on the middle stair.
