Matatau 2024

Date & Time: 10:00 am November 9, 2024
- 5:00 pm March 2, 2025

Matatau 2024 –Toioho ki Apiti, The School of Māori Visual Arts

Working with performance, sculpture, painting, and photography, this iteration of the annual Toioho ki Āpiti graduate exhibition references the tinana as a medium for exploring notions of mana tangata.

Together, these artists reflect a key kaupapa of Toioho ki Āpiti, which encourages students to ground their practice in customary narratives while visually exploring these through contemporary technology and modes of expression. This ensures the Mātauranga Māori they explore informs their understanding of who they are and in turn the work they create.

The artists in Matatau 2024 are Emily Lyall (Te Whakatōhea, Te Whānau ā Apanui), Bridie Te Ahumairangi Potts (Waikato, Ngāti Raukawa ki Wharepuhunga, Te Arawa, Ngāpuhi), Frances Dawson (Ngāti Ranginui, Pākehā) and Jordon Peterson (Ngāti Rangiwewehi, Ngāti Marukukere, Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Lalovaea, Leulumoega, Luatuanu’u).
