Meet the Makers

Date & Time: 11:00 am July 17, 2021
- 2:00 am July 17, 2021
There are 546 individually designed fabric panels making up the Suffrage in Stitches exhibition. Come along to this special event and meet some of them! The makers will give a guided tour of the exhibition, showing you their own work, sharing the stories behind it, the process of making, and what they learned. The panels in the exhibition represent the lives of those who signed the petition for women’s right to vote in New Zealand. This event takes place on two dates, 26 June and 17 July. Suffrage in Stitches was developed by Museums Wellington, in partnership with Vinnies Re Sew and is on display in the Te Manawa Art Gallery until 19 September 2021.
Suffrage in Stitches is a textile work 300 metres long honouring the women and men who signed the 1893 Suffrage petition. It’s the work of 546 individuals, families and groups from New Zealand and beyond, of all ages and abilities, during the 125th anniversary year of women’s suffrage in New Zealand.
