Acclaimed Sydney based author Martin Edmond grew up in this region, and is writing the big story of the Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua Whanganui. Covering the origins of the settlement, before Henry Sarjeant dreamed of a ‘fine art gallery’ for the city, Edmond delves into the 1917 – 1919 build, the opening and then a century of personalities, struggles, scandals, art, collecting and many exhibitions. In this public talk, Martin Edmond will talk about the Sarjeant book project and welcomes those with personal stories and anecdotes about the Sarjeant Gallery to attend with photographs and ephemera.
