Mikaela Nyman is a printmaker and an award-winning poet, fiction and non-fiction
writer, who writes in English and Swedish. Her forthcoming poetry collection The
Anatomy of Sand, published by Te Herenga Waka University Press, is firmly
grounded in Taranaki and the poems have also inspired her art.
Experimentation is an essential part of her creative practice.
Here, she has used sunlight, wax and Japanese kozo paper that is both fragile and
durable and leaves a crumpled textile texture when rinsed and squeezed. For similar
reasons of texture and mark-making, she prefers wet cyanoptype to dry.
