Bearing by David McCracken, 2011

Bearing is a large scale stainless steel sphere located on the riverbank of the Whanganui River. The sinuous route of the Whanganui River and its many tributary streams are cut into the reflective sphere. An anonymous donor gifted the work by Auckland based artist, David McCracken. Bearing was installed on 4 March 2011 at the riverbank with a private unveiling at a dawn ceremony taking place the following day.
