Having originally trained as an anthropologist and travelled extensively worldwide, I have drawn inspiration for my work from the handicrafts I’ve seen made by the indigenous peoples in Africa, India and the South Pacific, who create beautiful things working from their local surrounding environments. For me, my work reflects that love of simplicity and use of natural materials that I think encapsulates part of what makes New Zealand Coastlines so special. Hand crafted bespoke sea lanterns created from driftwood collected from the wild west coast of the North Island NZ. Designed to bring a touch of magic to your indoor or outdoor space!
Each driftwood basket is hand built using locally sourced wood and objects found on a shoreline. Each basket carries their own unique personality and named accordingly in Te Reo as I believe that the local language embodies the spirit of what my product stands for. I make smaller, medium and large sized works. I have added in copper wired seed lighting so they light up at night. Or alternatively a candle could be used to bring a more ‘natural look’ . And even better, if that candle was scented, the product then also becomes sensory in nature, adding another layer to the artwork.
Open afternoons from 12 Noon to 5 PM during the week. Weekends by appointment.
