Look for the brightly painted 'Yellow Church' building (on your right heading north and left heading south!). The former Presbyterian Church has been the creative studio of Resident Artist and Musician Richard Aslett since 2006.
It is also the home of the now 'infamous' two yearly 'Fakes & Forgeries' festival and exhibitions which have attracted entries form all over NZ/Aotearoa as well as Australia, the UK and even the good old US of A! Becoming a truly international artists event.
In the Gallery you will usually find Artist/Owner Richard Aslett and quite possibly his trusty 'Apprentice' Michael Cathels, often serving customers in their trade mark 'Walk-Shorts and Socks' - a fashion statement that started out as an April Fools stunt, yet after much admiration and encouragement from the ladies (and a few men!) the stylish garments have continued to be worn and has taken on life all of it's own!
The Gallery is full of many differing Artworks from Richard and a plethora of other Artists. You will find Paintings, Photography, Ceramics, Wood-Turning, Screen-Prints, Fridge Magnets, Gift Cards, Post Cards, Sculpture, Books and even Music CD's, plus other Arty Nick-Nacks and curious things of intertest.
Richard is also an experienced Musician, having played in many bands, right from the original Punk days of the 70's right through to today, playing drums and singing for the 'New Variants!' four piece live pop & rock band. He has also appeared on New Zealand's Got Talent NZGT Episode 4: Richard Aslett - YouTube , the X-Factor and more recently he made a brief appearance on the Chanel 2's 'Popstars' TV program.
The 'Yellow Church' Gallery also puts on regular exhibitions from established and emerging artists. Should you be interested in exhibiting, please contact Richard, preferably via e-mail, with some samples of your work.
We look forward to seeing you soon at the 'Yellow Church' Gallery in Mangaweka, NZ/Aotearoa.
Thank you.
