Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery is one of New Zealand's most prestigious regional art galleries. The original gallery was built in 1917 - 1919 and is a classical Greek Cross shape, clad in creamy Oamaru stone. It is one of New Zealand's most iconic heritage buildings. Over the course of an extensive redevelopment project it has been earthquake strengthened and restored, and extended with the addition of a modern new extension called Te Pātaka o Tā Te Atawhai Archie John Taiaroa.
