With A “Flour-ish”. Solo Exhibition Anne Garvey. Taranaki Textile Artist.
June 1st - July 10th 2023.
Anne has been an avid textile creator all her life as well as an educator. Her fascination with cloth and NZ History led her down a rather large rabbit hole…….. collecting and researching flour sacks from our historic flour mills. It used to be that flour mills were widely spread around NZ and they delivered their product in branded cotton flour bags. Many of these have survived over the years while others were absorbed into daily life. It is these textile reminders of our past that Anne has honoured and revitalised in her current exhibition. Practicing the art of thread painting Anne has selected gems from her collection to enrich and display in this assemblage honouring this foundational part of NZ History.
